How to add a link to your TikTok bio
Unlike Instagram, TikTok gates the clickable bio link. There are two ways past it, one of them instant, and both have a catch worth knowing before you pick.
Free forever. No credit card.
Who gets a clickable link in their TikTok bio
Read from TikTok's own Help Centre pages on the website field and on switching to a Business Account. Checked September 2026. TikTok has moved this threshold before, so the date matters.
| Account type | Clickable bio link | Threshold | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal | Yes, once unlocked | 1,000 followers | None |
| Business | Yes, immediately | No follower minimum | Commercial sound library only |
| Creator / Pro | Yes, once unlocked | 1,000 followers | None |
| Any, in a video caption | No, plain text | n/a | Not clickable at all |
| Any, in a comment | No, plain text | n/a | Not clickable at all |
The route, once you are eligible
The field is called Website and it lives inside Edit profile. It is not in Settings, which is where most people look first and conclude they do not have it.
1. Profile, then Edit profile
Open your own profile from the bottom-right tab, then tap Edit profile. You are looking for a row labelled Website, under Bio. If the row is absent, you are not eligible yet, and the next section is the one you want.
2. Paste the URL, then save
Paste the full URL including https://. TikTok rejects a bare domain silently in some app versions, which reads as the save failing for no reason. Then tap Save. The link appears under your bio as a tappable row.
3. Check it from a second phone
Your own profile shows the link whether or not it renders for others. Open your profile from an account that does not follow you, ideally on someone else's phone, and confirm the row is there and tappable.
If the Website field is not there
Two routes, and the fast one costs you something specific rather than being a free win.
Switch to a Business Account, instantly
Settings and privacy, then Account, then Switch to Business Account. The Website field appears immediately with no follower minimum. The cost is real: business accounts are restricted to TikTok's commercial sound library, so the trending track you wanted is usually unavailable. For creators whose reach depends on trending audio, that trade is a bad one.
Or reach 1,000 followers on a personal account
The threshold unlocks the Website field with no sound restriction. It is the right route if audio matters to your content, and it is the reason many creators put their URL in the bio text as unclickable plain text in the meantime.
What to do while you wait
Plain text in the bio still works, badly: people have to type it. Keep it short, memorable and lowercase, because it is being retyped from memory on a phone. A short branded handle retypes correctly far more often than a long URL with a path.
The catch that costs the most, and it is not the threshold
TikTok, like Instagram, opens your bio link inside its own in-app browser rather than handing it to the visitor's real browser. Everything downstream of the tap changes because of that.
Sessions do not carry over
The in-app window does not share cookies with Safari or Chrome, so a visitor who is signed into your store arrives logged out. Carts read as empty and saved payment methods are gone.
Payment sheets frequently do not appear
Apple Pay and Google Pay need the real browser to present. Inside a webview they often simply do not show, which the visitor reads as a broken checkout rather than a platform limitation.
One link, and it is the same one for every video
TikTok gives a single Website field, and unlike a story sticker it cannot vary per post. So the link either points at one thing forever, or at a page that holds everything and lets you change what leads without editing your profile.
What makes Links different
Your bio link opens in the real browser
Links pages carry the webview escape, so a visitor who taps your TikTok bio link lands in their own browser, still signed in, with their cart and saved cards intact.
Change what leads without touching your profile
TikTok allows one Website URL. Point it at a Links page once and reorder your destinations whenever a video takes off, without editing your bio or waiting on an app review.
See which video sent the click
Tracked links show which destination a visitor actually opened. TikTok's analytics stop at profile views, so without this you cannot tell a video that drove a click from one that drove a scroll.
Common questions
1,000 on a personal or Creator account. A Business Account gets the Website field immediately with no follower minimum, but is restricted to TikTok's commercial sound library, which rules out most trending audio. If your reach depends on trending sounds, waiting for 1,000 followers is usually the better trade.
No. Captions and comments render URLs as plain text on TikTok. The only clickable field is Website in your profile, which is why creators say link in bio at all.
Because it is not in Settings. It lives under your profile, then Edit profile, below Bio. If it is genuinely absent from Edit profile, you are under 1,000 followers on a personal account and have not switched to Business.
TikTok allows one Website URL. To reach several destinations from that single field, the URL has to point at a page that holds them, which is what a link-in-bio page does. There is no setting that adds a second field.
The documented restriction is the sound library, not reach itself: business accounts can only use TikTok's commercial catalogue. Whether that costs you views depends entirely on how much your content leans on trending audio. Creators report both outcomes, and we are not going to publish a figure we cannot reproduce.
TikTok opens it in its own in-app browser, which does not share Safari's cookies or sessions. Your visitor arrives logged out, carts look empty, and Apple Pay often will not present. Nothing is broken on your side, and no TikTok setting opts you out. The escape has to be built into the destination page.
