Your Instagram QR code, and one that goes anywhere

Instagram gives every account a QR code to its profile. It is useful and it is limited. Here is where to find it, and how to make one that points wherever you want instead.

Make your QR code

Paste any link. The code is built in your browser, so the address never leaves your device.

1024 px, black on white, ready to print.

Where Instagram keeps your profile QR code

Every account already has one. Instagram moved it out of the old nametag screen, which is why most guides send you somewhere that no longer exists.

On the app

Open your profile, tap the menu, then QR code. You can change the background but not where it points. It always opens your Instagram profile.

What it cannot do

It cannot send someone to a shop, a booking page, a track or a bio link. If the point of the code is to sell or book something, Instagram's own code sends people to a profile and makes them hunt from there.

When to use each

Use Instagram's own code when you want followers. Use a code that points at a link page when you want a purchase, a signup or a booking, because that removes a step at the moment it costs the most.

Making a code that points where you want

A QR code is an encoded address and nothing more. That is the whole reason this works offline and forever.

Point it at a page you can edit

Once printed you cannot change a code. Send it to a bio link whose destinations you can swap, so a sold-out drop or a finished campaign does not strand it.

Print from the download, not the preview

The on-screen code is 260 pixels. The download is 1024, black on white, which is what a printer needs. Printing the preview is the single most common reason a code fails on paper.

Leave the edges alone

A code needs a quiet margin. Pushing artwork against the pattern breaks it, and so does inverting it to light-on-dark, which some phone cameras will not attempt.

Why Links

What makes Links different

Nothing leaves your browser

The code is generated on your device. The link you paste is never sent to us, which is also why this needs no account.

Any destination, not just Instagram

A profile, a shop, a booking page, a bio link. The code encodes an address, so what sits at the other end is up to you.

Send it somewhere that counts clicks

The code itself cannot be tracked. Point it at a page with analytics and you learn what people did after scanning, which is the part that matters.

FAQ

Common questions

Open your profile, tap the menu at the top right, then QR code. It used to live under Nametag, which Instagram retired, so older guides point at a screen that no longer exists. The code opens your profile and you cannot change its destination.

Not Instagram's own one. It is fixed to your profile. To send people anywhere else, generate a code for that address instead, which is what the tool above does.

Instagram's own code lasts as long as the account. A code you generate here encodes your link directly, with nothing of ours in the middle, so it works for as long as that link does.

Not from the code. Neither Instagram's nor this one reports scans, because a QR code is just an address and the scan happens on someone else's phone. Point the code at a page that records its own clicks and you get the number that way.

About two centimetres across for something held in the hand, and roughly a tenth of the scanning distance beyond that, so a code read from two metres wants about twenty centimetres. Test a real print before ordering a run.
